Announcing the 2nd Annual International CTR Film Festival 2008

2nd Annual International
CTR Film Festival 2008
Steadfast & Immovable, always abounding in Good Works!
Sponsored by the Harris 1st Ward Young Men and Young Women CTR Film Festival Committee

In 2007 we held our first ever CTR Film Festival. We had 6 entries which stretched from Arizona to Germany. Due to the huge success we are pushing ahead for 2008 and plan on making it an even bigger success. If you haven’t had a chance, take a look at the 2007 recap video, our entries, and our celebrity judges awards! Below are the rules and schedules for 2008. Please RSVP to us if you are even considering submitting a movie. This way we can have an idea of participation and also have a contact to pass any reminders and updates along to. We look forward to seeing your entry!

Here are the rules for 2008 Film Festival Submissions
WHO—Who is eligible to submit a movie to the festival?
EVERYONE! YOU! There are no age restrictions, no religious restrictions, no specific skill levels, nothing. As long as your movie meets the criteria we want it at our festival!

THEME-- Your movie needs to CLEARLY embody the following scripture.
Mosiah 5:15. Therefore, I would that ye should be steadfast and immovable, always abounding in good works, that Christ, the Lord God Omnipotent, may seal you his, that you may be brought to heaven, that ye may have everlasting salvation and eternal life, through the wisdom, and power, and justice, and mercy of him who created all things, in heaven and in earth, who is God above all. Amen.

Every year the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints puts out a theme for the youth of the church to consider in their daily lives. This years theme is the scripture above. Please design your movie script around demonstrating this theme. Be creative in how you share this message with the audience.

DURATION—How long does your movie need to be?
Must be under 5 minutes. No minimum length.

PROP—Special object that must be included in the movie.
This year all movie entries must CLEARLY use (TBA) in their movie. Be creative!

COPYRIGHT RULES—Use only original images and sounds.
Do not submit any TV shows, music videos, music concerts, or commercials without permission unless they consist entirely of content you created yourself or you have express permission from all other copyright owners. If any non-original content is included you must submit permission from the copyright owner when you submit your film. The videos submitted to the CTR Film Festival are licensed under the following Creative Commons license.
View the Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 License.

MORAL STANDARD—Appropriate content will be strictly enforced.
All the movies submitted to this film festival must share a consistent adherence to the standards set forth in the pamphlet "For the Strength of Youth." The youth committee maintains the right to disqualify any movies they feel are inappropriate.

FORMAT—Acceptable formats to submit your movie.
Our #1 choice would be a CD or DVD with your movie in a .mov format. If this is not an easy option for you, please submit your movie burned onto a DVD that will play in any DVD player.

COST—Money that must be submitted with your entry to be included.
There is a fee of $20 ($30 after Sept 1) that must be included with each movie entry. This will cover the cost of the online and physical film festival (which will be held in Mesa, Arizona on October 18, 2008) as well as any other costs that may be incurred during the length of the festival. It is at the discretion of the CTR Film Festival Committee as the best way to spend the monies. As part of your entry fee you’ll receive one copy of the CTR Film Festival 2008 DVD that will include the top entries from the festival.

Announcing the 1st Annual CTR Film Festival

Sponsored by the Harris 1st Ward Young Men and Young Women of the Mesa Arizona Central Stake, CTRmovies announces the 1st Annual CTR Film Festival.

We are looking for great short films that we'll all enjoy watching. Here are the nuts and bolts of the festival:

  • Movie must be 5-minutes or less.
  • Movie must incorporate the YM/YW them for 2007. Let thy bowels also be full of charity towards all men, and to the household of faith, and let virtue garnish thy thoughts unceasingly; then shall thy confidence wax strong in the presence of God; and the doctrine of the priesthood shall distill upon thy soul as the dews from heaven. D&C 121:45
  • The plot of the movie must include a specific prop. This years prop is a Pool Noodle. Be creative!
  • The movies submitted to this film festival must share a consistent adherence to the standards set forth in the pamphlet "For the Strength of Youth." The youth committee maintains the right to disqualify any movies they feel are inappropriate.

Your ward is invited to submit as many movies as you'd like. For example, your YM may choose to submit a separate movie from the YW. Each 5-minute film submission should be submitted on a DVD, will need to be accompanied by a completed submission form and a $20 entry fee that will be used to host the film festival. All submissions must be in by October 1, 2007.

As part of the entry fee, your group will receive one copy of the 2007 CTR Film Festival DVD. It'll be jam packed with the best movies submitted. (Hopefully they'll all be from your ward or family, right?)

A panel of judges will be assembled to decide 7 CTR Award Winning Films. (Hint, you may want to design your movie with one of these in mind.) Amount of work performed by the youth will be a factor in choosing the winners.

  • Best in Show
  • Best use of a Pool Noodle
  • Best representation of the YM/YW Theme
  • Best Comedy
  • Best use of Special Effects
  • Best Actor
  • Best Actress
